The Bridge of Brown Tea Room is tucked into the hillside of the old military road overlooking the ‘old bridge’ and ‘Burn of Brown’. Built around the 1800’s this building has served as a byre (farmers shed), a coffee makers workshop, through to a catering stop for travellers passing through. A great place for cyclists, bikers, walkers, and other passer-bys, it’s the perfect spot to recover after a long climb or quiet break whilst on route. A true gem of a building sitting alone in the valley, the Tea Room offers everything a weary traveller needs to get them back on track including a great selection of drinks, hot food, and also fantastic cakes! (Trust me, after I tried the lemon cake I now drop in every time I pass by to take a slice home) It’s current owner, John, originally a computer planner from Leeds came to The Highlands to work at the Hydro Electric Plants. As work moved further south John decided he would like to stay and secured the business just over 13 years ago. Due to a remote location, like much local business, it has seasonal opening times generally closing when the snow starts to fall at the end of October opening again around April. For me this adds to what a unique and special place it is to visit, and also a great credit to John who’s passion and commitment to keeping this place accessible to all who pass through.
